Explore Big Eau Pleine County Park

Hiking at the Big Eau Pleine County ParkThere's so much to see and do in Wausau, especially if you love spending time in the great outdoors, that every now and then we'd like to highlight one specific place that stands out in our minds as being exemplary of Wausau.  This month, we'd like to introduce our guests to Big Eau Pleine County Park. It's one of the most highly utilized parks in the Wausau area, and is a true 4-season destination.  Better yet, this incredible outdoor destination is a quick 35 minute drive from the Stewart Inn, giving you the best of both worlds.  You can spend your day immersed in beautiful Mother Nature, followed by an evening enjoying downtown Wausau's finest shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues, all within easy walking distance of our luxury boutique hotel.  Book your stay with us this summer, and come see why Wausau is one of Wisconsin's best travel destinations.

Play at Big Eau Pleine County Park

The Big Eau Pleine County Park, at just over 2,500 acres, is the largest park in the county.  It is situated along the beautiful and protected shores of the 7000 acre Big Eau Pleine Reservoir.  In total, there are 12 miles of dedicated and maintained trails throughout the forest-like park, which are suitable for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and during the winter fat-tire biking and cross-country skiing.  Big Eau Pleine Park offers some of the best single track mountain biking trails in the Wausau area. Roots, rocks, hilly terrain, and even the occasional muddy trail are common place. The most popular trails are starting at the Outhouse and riding to the technical Rock Gardens, or Big Eau Pleine County Park in Wausau, Wisconsinstarting on horsetrail and heading to popcorn loop. There are also several fishing access points along the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir, a swimming beach, and 3 boat launches for water sports.  At its deepest, the lake is 46 feet deep, and is a great place to fish for Musky, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and Walleye, which is the most abundant. When you've hit the point of exhaustion for the day, head back to the luxurious accommodations of the Stewart Inn, Wausau's premiere boutique hotel.  If you're back early enough, we offer a wine and cheese reception for our guests every evening at 5:00.  From there, head into downtown Wausau, where you'll find the best microbreweries, restaurants, and top entertainment venues in town, all within easy walking distance of our boutique hotel.  Finalize your plans for a little summer getaway to Wausau this year, and book your room at the Stewart Inn.
