Stay Warm and Dry in Wausau This Winter

Wausau in the Winter
It's easy to talk about the many outdoor activities in Wausau this winter. From downhill skiing and snowboarding, cross country skiing, and ice skating, to fat tire biking, ice fishing, and snowmobiling, you can have endless fun in the snow. But what if you don't enjoy being outside in the cold and wet? Don't fret; there's plenty for you here, too. Here are our favorite ways to stay warm and dry while in Wausau during the cold winter months:- At the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, you'll find a stunning collection of historic and contemporary paintings, graphics and sculptures primarily focusing on birds. It's the perfect place for a nature lover to explore while staying warm and dry.
- Wausau's Center for the Visual Arts is housed in a beautiful historic building, and features a vibrant collection of local and regional artwork. Their gift shop, featuring the works over over 250 local, regional, and national artists, is an extraordinary place to find special gifts or keepsakes as well.
The Yawkey House Museum is a stunning example of a 1900/1901 Classical Revival styled house. The house is open year-round, and features beautiful stained glass windows, art glass lighting fixtures, and many original Yawkey furnishings.
- If you're up for a short walk, a stroll through the Andrew Warren Historic District is worth the effort. Our Boutique Hotel is part of this extraordinary neighborhood, which has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984. The 62 buildings in the 10-block Warren District were built between the years of 1868 and 1934, and showcase a variety of architectural styles, including Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Classical Revival, and Prairie School architecture. Our own Inn is a 1906 Prairie style mansion, designed by George Maher. After your walk, you can warm back up in front of the fireplaces at the Stewart Inn.
- Pinewood Supper Club, considered to be one of the top Supper Clubs in Wisconsin, is an interesting place to spend an evening. You'll enjoy great food, and a traditional Midwestern experience that can't be beat.
- There are three Microbreweries in Wausau, each crafting a fine selection of craft beer to enjoy on a cold afternoon. They are Bull Falls Brewery, The Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co., and Red Eye Brewing.
- Enjoy a whirlpool soak at the Hot Haus Spa, or an indulgent treatment at the DaySpring Health Spa.
- Catch a Broadway performance, a music act, or a comedy show at The Grand, or enjoy local theater at the Wausau Community Theater.
