A Summer Day at Rib Mountain State Park

Explore Rib Mountain State Park
During the winter months, Rib Mountain State Park is home to the popular Granite Peak Ski Area, one of the best ski resorts in the Midwest. During the fall and summer months, Rib Mountain State Park becomes popular for a variety of other activities. Here's a short video about summer in the park: Rib Mountain was once believed to be the tallest peak in Wisconsin, but it's now known to be the third tallest point. Moreover, it's one of the oldest rock formations on earth, coming in at an astounding 1.7 billion years old. It's an excellent place to spend the day picnicking, hiking, and enjoying nature. In total, there are more than 13 miles of hiking trails within Rib Mountain State Park, some of them culminating with extraordinary views over the Wausau area and Wisconsin River. Follow the Gray Trail, which leads to the popular 60-foot observation tower. From there, you'll enjoy exceptional views of Wausau below. Other points of interest in Rib Mountain State Park include the popular Queen's Chair rock formation, sliding rock, and sunset point. Rib Mountain State Park also hosts a summer concert series, Concerts in the Clouds, in their amphitheater. The next performance will be on July 16th. There will also be a Shakespeare in the Park performance on July 21. To enjoy this park and many others, book your room at Wausau's premiere boutique hotel, the Stewart Inn.
