Explore Rib Mountain State Park
During the winter months, Rib Mountain State Park is best known for its popular ski hill, Granite Peak Ski Area. It is one of the best ski resorts in the Midwest. During the remainder of the year, Rib Mountain State Park is much beloved for its scenic beauty, trails, and scenic viewpoints.
Rib Mountain, the third tallest point in Wisconsin, is actually one of the oldest rock formations on earth, at an astounding 1.7 billion years old. The Gray Trail will take you up to the 60-foot observation tower. From there, you’ll enjoy exceptional views of Wausau below. Other points of interest in Rib Mountain State Park include the popular Queen’s Chair rock formation, sliding rock, and sunset point.
